Traktor Scratch Duo: Unboxing & First Impressions
Not long ago, I picked up Traktor Scratch Duo to go along side my Technics 1210′s.
For the $400 investment at the time (it’s now only about $250ish) it was a great deal – and it’s still one of my best decisions when learning how to DJ.
Native Instruments definitely put in a lot of great design and functionality within this piece of DJ equipment. For those that want to become digital turntabilist, I’d highly recommend it even over Serato; the ability to sync it up with other programs offered by NI is well worth it alone.
Those that are beginner DJ’s, the low investment is well worth it if you’ve got a set of vinyl or CD turntables.
Some of the basic specs include:
- 2 decks using turntables, CD decks or MIDI controllers
- 2 control vinyl records and 2 CDs
- DJ effects (delay, flanger, reverb, filter, beatmasher, gater)
I snagged a few pictures of when I was unboxing it a while back; I’m finally getting around to uploading them now, let’s take a look:

Safety scissors - don't cut yourself!

Don't eat the packing peanuts

oooh, the box is looking sexy

Lots of great little hookups for tables
Now that Traktor Scratch Duo is down to $179, it’s pretty much accessible to anyone that wants to have that digital feel of playing their MP3′s and other formats while still using their turntables (vinyl & CD).
I personally love it; it didn’t take long to hook up and start playing around with it. The interface was a bit difficult to navigate around at first (but that’s just normal for any new piece of gear) – after a few hours of playing, it all made sense. Being able to touch the platter and mix felt perfect – playing any song on my computer was equally as awesome since so many of them weren’t released on vinyl.
Overall, I’d say that if you’re using CD or Vinyl at the moment and want to begin using your digital music than Traktor Scratch Duo is a great place to start – they also hold their value.
Final Verdict and Impressions: 5/5
