Digital DJ turntables and controllers gives you an incredible amount of flexibility to build mixes, play with effects, tweak software and keep your costs, for starting, well under half of the amount you would spend when using vinyl or CD’s.

Thinking about becoming a DJ? Take a look at these five digital DJ turntables and controllers which would be perfect if you’re making the push for digital DJing and without breaking your budget.

#1: Hercules DJ Console RMX

The DJ Console RMX, by Hercules, tops the list by offering up one of the most economical options for new digital DJs. At a current price of $265, you can gain the full flexibility of mixing on a DJ controller with built in effects, jog wheels and a pre-packaged copy of Virtual DJ.

The Hercules DJ Console RMX is built to be a workhorse; the steel design will take a beating even when you’re in the heaviest of mixing.

You’ll find everything you need to get started with DJing in the RMX. Jog wheels act as your turntables, built in knobs let you control the sound, pitch faders helps you control the mix and additional inputs for microphones and gear lets you get started for less than $300.

Learn more: Read the full Hercules DJ Console RMX specs and reviews.

#2: Numark Mixtrack Pro

Second on the list is the versatile Numark Mixtrack Pro; it deserves its place because it’s quickly become the ‘go-to’ for digital DJ equipment because of all the available options it offers. At just over $220, the Mixtrack Pro is an economical choice for budding Digital and Mobile DJs.

You’ll find everything in this DJ setup: 2 jog wheels for controlling your mix, full knobs for sound and effects controls, sliders to adjust the sound (and mix), additional effects controllers and plenty of outputs to sync up with Traktor or the included Virtual DJ LE software (or other midi DJ software).

The Numark Mixtrack Pro is perfect for getting started; you’ll get everything you need if Digital DJing is your chosen choice. With a price like that with all the included features it certainly deserves its place at #2 on the list.

Learn more: Read the full Numark Mixtrack Pro specs and reviews.

#3: Vestax Typhoon Midi Controller

Vestax create some of the best DJ midi controllers and turntables in the business with their smashing hits in the VCI series. However, VCI’s are a bit expensive for many which is why the Typhoon makes our list. At $265, the Typhoon offers up a comparable set of features you find in others as it aims to be an all-in-one bundle.

One major benefit of the Typhoon is the built in sound card. You won’t need to run off to buy a completely new one for your computer; everything is included. However, there have been some known sound problems with the unit but you have to take the good with the bad especially when you aim for under $300.

Is the Typhoon right for you? Well, if you’re a fan of Vestax and understand their offering of great products that certainly so otherwise you can take an assessment of the other on the list.

Learn more: Read the full Vestax Typhoon specs and reviews.

#4: Reloop Mixage Interface Edition DJ Controller

Reloop is a relatively new contender in the digital DJ controller market but they’re not one to turn a blind eye toward. Reloop has come out the ring swinging with their release of the Mixage controller. The Mixage is starting to gain traction with many beginner DJ’s especially for it’s $250 price point.

Expect to find the same set of features that seems standard in Digital DJ controllers such as jog wheels, mixers, knobs and input/outputs. However, one advantage with going with the Reloop Mixage is the inclusion of Traktor 2 LE which is a very robust DJ software (I personally use Traktor Scratch and love it).

The Reloop Mixage is a bit basic, overall; there are some features mixing that you find standard higher end equipment such as kill switches and greater control on EQ’s but for a fresh entry in the market, Reloop is making its mark.

Learn more: Read the full Reloop Mixage specs and reviews.

#5: Gemini DJ CTRL-SIX Midi Controller

Coming in at #5, the Gemini DJ CTRL-SIX midi controller is what you’d expect from a midi controller from the jog wheels to the EQ knobs. There’s nothing really special to say about this unit but there’s not much bad about it either; it’s sort of the “in between”, a unit that would be popular if it had the same attention as many of the others.

For $250, the Gemini DJ CTRL-SIX will certainly get you started with Digital and Mobile DJing. The unit includes a soundcard so, as we discussed, you’re starting off on a good foot. It’s solid, has the features you need and will stand up to the test of mixing.

Learn more: Read the full Gemini CTRL-SIX specs and reviews.

So, there you have it; the top five Digital DJ turntables and controllers for under $300. When you’re on a budget, you generally have less options but when it comes to DJ controllers you have all the great benefits of high end gear for less than half the price. Get started with DJing today.

Welp, after many months of stagnation BeginnerDJ has finally got a facelift it badly needed.

So what’s going on eh?

The last few months have been quite busy for me; frankly I’ve been busy building my freelance business (need to bring in the money, amiright?).

Other than that, I took a visit to Canada and have been busy going out to some local parties (which have been getting busted more often lately, blah!).

What’s new to expect?

Now that BDJ has the facelift I’m going to be focusing back into the content, comments and building up the blog.

I have a few things planned out:

More DJ interviews

Beginner DJ tutorials

Events and Event Guides

Contests and Promotions

More guest posts

I’m most excited about the last part – I’ve recently contacted a local crew around Tampa (which I’ve gone to parties countless times) to see if they’d like to add to the blog. They’re going strong and have a ton of members that can all add some really great insight into every aspect of DJing – I’m hoping to get more information on promotion and the ‘business’ side of throwing parties (setup, finding talent, etc).

Other than that

I’ve learned a lot about blogging in the recent months. I admit that I’ve been neglectful of this blog because I’ve been focused on other things but today is the day it changes. I’m going to bring over all my knowledge to really make this place badass!

Your turn

So, what do you think of the new theme? Do you have anything you’d like to see BDJ cover in the future? Input your comments below.

Some of the new things happening at BeginnerDJ. Be sure to check out what's up!

Hey BDJ readers,

I just wanted to give everyone a little heads up on what’s going on at BeginnerDJ.

I figure it I owe it to everyone to keep them in the loop.

First off, thank you so much for reading BDJ. It’s great to see so many people visiting the site and commenting on the posts. I really appreciate it, it keeps me going :)

So, I’m sure you’ve noticed a few things that have popped up on BDJ but if not, I figure they’re worth mentioning.

The BeginnerDJ Shop

After getting asked a bunch of times for recommendations for gear, books, music and more, I figure it would be great to include a shop for BeginnerDJ.

This store is a simple Amazon store built into the site.

It does mean that anything you buy will earn me some affiliate cash, I don’t want to keep you in the dark about that.

The additional money that comes in through Amazon will ultimately come back to you in the form of gear reviews, being able to attend parties and write about them and so much more.

Be sure to check out the BDJ shop here.

The BeginnerDJ Archives

I recently found a great plugin called PS Auto Sitemap which allows me to place a single line of code to generate a sitemap on the site.

Up until now I’ve been using Google XML sitemaps for the search engines but I wanted you to be able to read back through the archives without having to click from page to page.

This creates a really nice list of the posts.

Check out the Beginner DJ archives here.

BeginnerDJ Facebook Page

I created a Facebook page for BeginnerDJ a while back but never got around to placing it on the site.

As you can see, it is up on the site currently.

I did this because RSS and Email subscriptions just don’t really cut it anymore. A lot of people may have no idea how to use RSS or don’t want to read posts through their Email. I figure a Facebook page would be great because everyone already has an account.

Check out the BeginnerDJ Facebook page here.

Google Ads on BDJ Wut?

I’ve been a bit hesitant about placing more Google Adsense ads on the blog because I don’t want them to distract you from the content.

In the end, I wanted to have a nice block on the sidebar and toward the bottom of the post.

Again, much like the BDJ Shop, this is mostly just to pay the bills and so I can pick up new gear to review for you guys.

Also, if it gets to the point where it pulls in any additional money, I’d love to hold contests for everyone. I’d love to eventually hold a contest where someone can win a full set of decks!

I want everyone to voice their opinion about the ads, if you don’t like them, speak up and I’ll remove them. Remember, the blog is for your benefit, not some advertiser.

BDJ Input and Suggestion

Over the last few months I’ve been able to talk to a lot of great people.

Some of these people have been DJs, avid readers and people really interested in the music – big ups for them!

If you ever have any post suggestion, guest post, things you want to share or comments, please fire away – I’m always open to new ideas and helping others get promoted.

Thanks again

Just wanted to thank everyone again for a great reception of this blog. I’ll continue to do my best to provide some really great content.

Keep checking it out in the future for more posts, reviews, interviews and more. As it builds up, I hope to be able to give more back to everyone so keep up the support!

Thanks,

Muxx

Tired of messing around with RSS? BDJ is now on Facebook, check it out and join the discussion!

Hey everyone, it’s been a few days but don’t think I haven’t been busier than ever.

Just to fill you in the loop, the last party I went to I think I got a bit of kidney damage, it happens, was fun, would do it again.

As you can probably see there have been some tweaks to BDJ mainly the addition of the Facebook fan widget.

I’ve been in debate wither or not to get rid of RSS completely because of a few things:

RSS doesn’t allow you to have discussions as FB would

A ton of people have FB, not as many use RSS

I use Facebook in a similar fashion:

updating about new posts

sharing music

telling people about recent events and upcoming parties

we can talk and share tips and tricks

it’s really great!

So anyway, don’t want to drag this on and bore you…

Can you believe it? BeginnerDJ is now one month old! Well actually…

BeginnerDJ has actually been around for a little over a year but until recently it has remained dormant. The relaunch of BeginnerDJ has sparked a new interest in the blog as well as for DJing in general.

It’s been one month since the relaunch of BeginnerDJ.com and already it’s seen quite the response. I wanted to show you some of the highlights of the last month since the relaunch.

A brief overview of the BeginnerDJ relaunch

It was over a year ago that I started BeginnerDJ with the intent of bringing readers the best information on DJing, gear, promotion and all there is to know about the electronic music scene.

This hasn’t been a small task in the least. There are literally hundreds of subjects to touch on – all of which I hope to cover.

So, let’s take a look at some of the stats of the last month since the relaunch.

The most popular BeginnerDJ posts so far

Let’s take a look at some of the most popular posts on BDJ in the last month.

Where to go from here?

As I mentioned, this has only been the first month since the relaunch and I’ve barely scratched the surface of the amount of information there is to know about DJing.

With each passing week, more and more posts are being added on all kinds of DJ subjects.

From this point forward it’s only going to be up and up.

In the future you can expect in depth guides to DJ gear, great articles on crafting your mix, how to promote yourself as well as some big surprises which will be revealed soon.

Thank You!

I want to thank everyone that has visited, contact and have helped promote BeginnerDJ.

I especially want to thank Dave from BoyInABand.com, @Dwyndal, @media_modus and @DJPsyence.

I wouldn’t have been able to get to this point without everyone so big thanks!

Finally…

If you have any suggestions about the site, posts or would like to help out, feel free to drop me a line or comment in a post.

BeginnerDJ has reach a very small milestone, but a milestone nonetheless.

The blog has been going strong for 2 weeks now and it looks like there’s no end in sight.

With that being said, there are a few things that BDJ readers should keep an eye out for in the future, many great things.

A new set of tutorial series

After doing some research to see how people are landing on BDJ, it seems apparent that they’re looking at more than just learning how to DJ.

There’s so much more to DJing than just learning how to beat match, select songs and the equipment used.

Be on the look out for a whole new set of tutorial “series” such as:

Ways to promote yourself as a DJ

DJ Fundamentals

A complete DJ tutorial series

And there will be so much more!

Input from other DJs and producers

Besides having fun at all the parties I go to around my area, I’ve also been able to talk to some really great local DJs and producers.

Because of these great connections with these people it has allowed me to open up a whole new aspect of BDJ through interviews.

I will be talking with DJs that really know what they’re doing, day in and day out. Some of these characters you’ll get to know and love, I guarantee it.

BeginnerDJ would like your input

It’s great to hear back from all of BDJ readers but I need your help.

I already have plenty of content planned but I’d love to hear what you’d like to read, it’s all about you!

Comment or send me a message on twitter about what subjects you’d like for me to cover. I’ll try my best to answer every request.

Be on the lookout for fresh, new content coming to BeginnerDJ. You keep reading and I’ll keep posting. Hope to hear from you!

Okay, okay, I just couldn’t wait any longer, especially until Monday…

Welcome to the relaunch of Beginner DJ!

Wait, what?

A little over a year ago I started the BeginnerDJ because it seemed like there wasn’t any great place to go to find information and tutorials about DJing. Of course there are places around the net but most of these sites aren’t focused toward people just beginning DJing. I wanted to change that…

During the first launch, I made a few articles that were generally well accepted and viewed. However, as my focused turned elsewhere (web design), I eventually let BDJ die off. Then one day I noticed something, a regular amount of people were still coming to the website even though I didn’t write anything for nearly a year!

Well, after putting off the redesign of the website for what it seemed like an eternity, the focus on web design paid off as what you’re looking at is designed by me!

With the new look comes new inspiration.

Expect many great things to come from BeginnerDJ, including:

DJ Tutorials
Equipment Reviews
Music Reviews
Events
and more!

Well, with that all being said, it’s time to get this started.

Thanks for stopping by BeginnerDJ. Remember to subscribe to the RSS or follow me on Twitter @muxxex

Here we go…
