The Next Version of BeginnerDJ has Arrived

When I launched BeginnerDJ back in 2008, I set out to create an extensive resource for those learning how to DJ. Fast forward to 2012 and I’ve made the decision to do a full revision to the website which, as you can see, is a major overhaul of the look and feel of the site.

Over the years I’ve tested a whole slew of different website themes, features, and experiments.

For those that have been around and noticed these changes, I do apologize for some breakage at times but BeginnerDJ continues to chug along – with the support of you – thank you!

So here we are, going on 4+ years later and BeginnerDJ is reaching its next phase.

From Humble Beginnings

It was 2008, I was interested in coding websites, mixing, and full-on into EDM. I had trouble finding a lot of decent information about learning to DJ – everything seemed to have been scattered. Since launching the site, it’s seen its ups and downs, there have been many more to join in over the years.

The first version of the website was coded by hand and boy, it sucked.

It got the job done but the entirety of the website was clunky and lacked many important features to stay viable. I gave up on the website multiple times until I finally came back around to put my full effort into the project.

Knowing that I was shit for coding, I found a great theme for the site which you’ve known for the last year or two. The theme certainly got the job done but, again, there were too many things lacking that didn’t allow BDJ to grow.

And here we are now.

To be honest, it’s a big departure from the previous designs and feel but I think it’s for the best because it allows BDJ to finally grow into what it’s meant to be: the definitive platform for learning to DJ online.

This Big Solo Project

I took on the task of running BeginnerDJ on my own.

Over the years, I’ve poured thousands of hours into the website content and community. There have been many times when I didn’t feel it was worth it but, to be honest, it really was. Out of all the projects I’ve worked on, BeginnerDJ has been my favorite.

Today, things continue to evolve.

I feel I’m a part of the EDM culture more and more.

There are times that I don’t care much for what’s going on but having a voice means it’s equally important that I give my opinion on the matter even if it may not be of popular thought.

I write this, now, with high expectations on the future of BeginnerDJ.

There are always new areas to explore but the core of it all is to ensure you all are getting the best.

There are times when I’m stumped for ideas but that’s where I’d like you to step up and have your say.

It’s Go Time

Here’s what I’d really like to do:

  • Continually push out new, fresh content to the site (in hopes of 3x a week)
  • News and other newsworthy items to keep you informed
  • Bigger, better tutorials and guides
  • An expansion into music production and more
  • Community news, features, and feedback as a focal point
  • Giveaways, contests, and more

I started BDJ more than four years ago. I’ve made just enough money to keep the project going for the majority of it. But now, it’s finally earning enough that I can give back to the community and this means more goodies for you.

In 2012 and beyond, you’ll be seeing some radical, awesome updates to the site. I think you’ll like ‘em.

It’s go time. If you’re with me.

Let’s do this.
