#Music Monday: 2/22/10
Hey everyone and welcome to a new little idea I had in mind for BeginnerDJ.
I figure it would be a great way to start posting some of the things I’ve found throughout the week that have caught my ear or was really helpful and post them on the according day, Monday!
#MusicMonday posts will be about new and old music, tutorials I’ve found while lurking on the deepest of the nets, great articles and interviews with top notch DJs and producers and much, much more.
To make it a bit interesting, I’ll try to tell you the journey I had while finding these items (hopefully it doesn’t bore you).
So, to kick things off right, let’s begin the the first #MusicMonday post.

Umek: 150+ Sets
While searching for a song I heard Umek play, I came across a forum that was listing an amazing 150+ sets! Not only did I find what I was looking for but this list goes waaay backin into Umek’s DJ career, don’t miss it.
Umek is absolutely amazing. I’ve been a huge fan of Richie Hawtin for quite some time but I think I’ve finally found someone to take his throne. I can’t believe Umek has flown under my radar for this long.
Klaus Schulze and Pete Namlook – Careful With The AKs
A friend of mine linked me this late one night and I’m really happy I clicked on it. This song really shows some old school psychedelic synthesizers, it’s from the album Dark Side Of The Moog.
Electrypnose – Life Is A Sinus
I’m a big fan of Dark Psytrance and this song takes the cake for me. The hard computer hissing and bubbling effect in the middle has turned this into my favorite Dark Psy tune by far.
Paul Elstak & Firestone – A Hardcore State Of Mind
Okay, I admit it, I like some Gabber. It’s not everyones cup of tea but this song is absolutely brutal. Just wait for the kick to start.
Plastikman – Krakpot
Richie! My friend Dez recently picked up this single on vinyl and couldn’t wait to show off his new loot. I’m jealous. Classic tune.
#Awesome Videos – Parties and Trippiness
Ozora Festival 2009
This video chronicles the Ozora Festival of 2009. It’s divided into various parts on YouTube. Throughout it are some big name hitters in the Psy world such as Man With No Name, Hallucinoge, Shpongle and more.
7th Heaven Pot Smoking Episode
This video is absolutely hilarious, look how serious everyone is. It’s sure to give you a few laughs.
Crooked Rot
I love stop animation, it always has this really creepy effect if done right and this video really does it for me.
Only a few minutes long, by the time you’re done watching it, you’re going to say “WAAAAT?!”

Demen1 on deviantART
While browsing around for party fliers, I came across the portfolio of Demen1.
To put it into words: these fliers are some of the most beautiful I’ve seen in a long time. Each work blows your mind and 1 up’s the next.
Definitely check out the Portfolio of Demen1
The Psychology of Cyberspace
I’ve been a big cyberpunk fan for quite some time now, hell, I grew up on the net – it’s in my veiiiins. This is a really great read. It’s a bit dated but it’s such a vivid portrayal of the web.

An Interview With Dr. Alexander Shulgin about Ecstasy
Shulgin has given the world a lot that we should all be thankful for. Besides the hundreds of research chemicals he’s synthesized, he’s best known for Ecstasy. This interview gives so great light to the birth of the love drug.

Stay Tuned!
So, there we have it, #MusicMonday.
I don’t want to overload you with hundreds of links to boring crap, I really want to make the effort to share with you things I’ve found that really got me excited.
Dez and I talk about Novelty. This idea is covered thuroughly by Terence McKenna as he discusses Time Wave Zero. Basically it means when something monumental happens in the world, it’s a rare form of novelty.
How does this relate to the #MusicMonday items? Well, most of them are always found through some weird coincidence or at the perfect time (you know when something just hits the spot?).
I hope you enjoyed this post, hopefully it passes some time and you can discover some new music and read about some really cool things.
Be sure to share what you’ve found lately in the comments below!
