International Music Conference 2011: Music Industry Worldwide Gathering (Sept. 21 – 24)
I recently got a heads up about a new music event brewing up in the south of the United Stated, Atlanta, Georgia to be specific, that aims to pull together the international music industry.
This event is called: International Music Conference.
What is the International Music Conference?
According to the mission statement by IMC:
The International Music Conference is set to become the main music event to encapsulate the new music industry worldwide. It is the best place to create, communicate and participate in the global multi-billion pound music industry forum. IMC is one of the only unique conferences of its kind to provide a massive gathering of artists, songwriters, sponsors, music industry executives and music fans from the UK, Europe and North America with a common goal… to showcase opportunities and connect artists with clear routes of collaboration within the international music scene.
From what I understand about it, this conference isn’t just a giant party but instead meant to bring together DJ’s, musicians and artists together with others from all over the world so they can openly discuss the music industry and make connections that can lead to gigs, record deals and greater exposure.
Think of it, in many ways, as half music, half business gathering. You’re not only trying to show off your skills but you’re trying to mingle with people to make those powerful connections to get noticed internationally.
Who’s going and behind the event?
The International Music Conference is still very, very fresh so a lot of information is coming to light with each passing day.
At the event, it’s expected to bring in:
- Artists
- Managers
- Booking agents
- Distributors
- DJ’s
- Manufacturers
- Record label presidents
- Retailers
It’s really trying to be like an expo in some ways; think of it like E3 where you’ve got a mix of gamers, game designers and companies all in one place but instead, it’s for music.
Some of the partners backing the event are:
- Beatport
- GrimeDaily
- Delta
- Avis
- BeatThang
- RollingOut.com
- … and more
At this time, there are still a lot of partners being added so this list will be sure to grow as it gets closer to the event.
IMC is shaping up to be a very unique experience. I’ve been to part of Winter Music Conference but it’s mostly about the parties; IMC, on the other hand, is more about the industry and the movers and shakers that make it possible.
IMC Schedules & Events
As for what you can expect to do at the event, here are some of the things lined up:
- R&B/Hip Hop Song Feedback – Present your own songs and you can get feedback from producers and industry executives in the respected genre’s to help refine your skills.
- Inside the Studio – Get to ask producers what it’s like to be in the studio and the struggles they had to endure to get where they’re at; great for picking up little ideas for your own setup.
- Media & PR Workshop – Find out how to increase your presence and get your name out there with workshops and chats with panelists.
- Collaborations – Get to meet the people in the industry and talk about possible collaborations with each other.
- Legal Issues – Figure out the legal side of licensing music and distribution. Although this may seem boring to some it’s absolutely essential for those taking it big time.
- Meet Ups – A general meetup with all the participants and a chance to get to know everyone that’s attending IMC.
- DJ Contest – Put your skills to the test by showing off your DJ skills; prizes can be won.
- Producer Showcase – Check out some of the latest gear in the industry and get to talk with the people behind them.
There’s a lot going on during the event (September 21st to 24th). Since the event is still really fresh, we can probably expect to see a lot more development as it goes on.
Pricing and Travel
Pricing is setup in different tiers, including:
- Standard entry pass – Expect to pay anything from $99 – $199 which will include all the general access to the event, guides and more; this is the basic pass that covers just about everything.
- Featured events pass – A step up from the previous, this pass lets you get access to the DJ mix off, producers showcase and the launch and after parties. Expect to pay $149 – $249.
- VIP Pass – Get all of the previous items but also access to the “Welcome to Atlanta” industry meet and greet mixer where you can get one-on-one time with people and entry into VIP places throughout the event. VIP passes will run $500.
You can learn more about it by checking out the IMC Registration Page.
Final Thoughts
In all, International Music Conference is shaping up to be a really interesting and unique event for the United States and international crowd. It’s great to see that an event is being organized to bring in not just the music but the people behind helping to get the music out there. I’m definitely going to keep my eye on this one and see how it develops.

As I sit outside, smoking my cheap cigarettes, I can’t help but feel a twing of come down.
This weekend my friends and I had a blast at Ultraviolet, a party down in Lithia, FL. As an outdoor rave, I expected it to be full of craziness and awesome music, which we definitely experienced plenty of.

Last year was crazy as hell as I attended UMF and a few other parties that weekend.
Although it was a pure haze of experience through the weekend, I learned a few things along the way that I think will be helpful if it’s your first time going to Ultra Music Festival.
Some of the things that happened are comedy gold while other things will be really helpful to know.
